I Love my Mommy

My mom has been my mom for 30ish years, so in honor of her I am blogging 30 things that remind me her!

1.  Singing in the car to the radio
2.  Baking, especially cookies, homemade suckers, those little molds you pour colored chocolate into, and croissants or Philo Dough...she loves the stuff!
3.  Lists!  She makes them and they used to make me crazy, but now I am a list freak.  Sam literally needs a list that says, put on your shoes and socks or he forgets half way down the stairs.
4.  Books.  She loves to read and I used to never read, like literally I graduated from High School having read exactly 2 books cover to cover.  I now love it and love to share books with her.  Although, she gets bored with the history in my books and I get bored with the dragons and wizards in hers.
5.  Snuggling with my kids or scratching their backs.  This is my favorite thing and was my favorite thing as a little girl.  I used to try to stay super still because if I moved she would sometimes stop rubbing my back.
6.  Shopping.  She loves it and I love it!  One particular memory I can't forget is her throwing bras into my dressing stall at Lamonts and me yelling disgusting and kicking them back under the door.
7.  Food TV
8.  New York City.  My first trip there was with my mom and Danette.  We saw Broadway shows, went to Sax for makeovers, ate Roxy's cheesecake, and walked through times square.  It is one of my very favorite cities and each time I have visited, I am reminded of my mom and what fun we had.
9.  Making Josh's plate for dinner, which he hates because I never get it right.  I use too much sauce or not enough--He usually just says, "I can get that", but she ALWAYS does this for my dad.  and I used to think, "are his legs broken?", but now I think it is just plain sweet.
10.  Excellent Phone manners (this is from Josh).  She loves to talk on the phone, refer to #16
11.  Bulletin Boards.  I used to love doing them in her 4th grade classroom every year. She always said she couldn't do it without me.  I am pretty sure she could, but it made me feel special.
12.  Packing a backpack full of food for Disneyland
13.  Making a dinner menu
14.  Star Trek
15.  The Beatles or 60s music in general
16.  Sarcasm.  She uses it well.  It offends people often and is super funny.
17.  Picking out Easter or Christmas dresses.  I once told my mom that I didn't like the Christmas Dress she picked out.  Holy Sh#t was that a mistake, which leads me into
18.  Saying Thank you for gifts and pretending to like them even if you don't.
19.  Cleaning toilets.  She puts on the gloves and gets in there with a pumice stone, truly!
20.  Driving out to buckskin basin where my dad farms reminds me of my mom, because we used to drive there often and bring him a treat or dinner in the gray Buick and it was the only time the speedometer would flash 85.
21.  Jordan Almonds
22.  Painting my toenails or getting a pedicure, which is still often done with her!
23.  When my kids ask for a drink at bed time.  I think of screaming, "mom" super loud when her friends were over, just so I could hug her for a little while and then asking for a drink.
24.  Email.  It reminds me of my mom because I learned how to do it when I moved to Washington, DC and needed to email my mom and every time we are in a foreign country and she has my children, I am always emailing her and she is emailing me about what they did and how cute the kids are and how my dad isn't going to let me have them back!
25.  Phoenix
26.  Snowmobiling and Island Park.  She is the best hostess and we really can't be in Phoenix or at the cabin in Island Park without her or we have no clue what to do with ourselves let alone how to clean up when its time to go home
27.  New Shoes
28.  Diet Coke...it was Diet Pepsi for so long
29.  Making piles in my yard.  My mom used to rake huge piles for us to then clean up.  I find myself doing the same thing and making the piles is much more fun!
30.  Being a mom reminds me of my mother because I find myself doing a lot of the same things that drove me crazy and that I LOVED.

I Love you mom.  You are and have always been my very best friend.  I can't even drive by your house with out stopping to hang out, which I do frequently.  I am so glad that you are close and that I get to talk to you and see you almost every day.  Thank you for your advice, your help, your humor, and your love!  Lu
